About Our Runner Rugs

Runner rugs typically measure 2 to 3 feet wide and 7 to 14 feet long. The most common runner rug sizes are 2.5x7 and 2.5x10. Because of its slim and long size, runners are the easiest way to add color and texture to any small or narrow spaces in your home, be it in the kitchen, hallway, entryway, bedroom, or living room.

How to Choose a Runner Rug

Rug Pile and Texture: Our runner rugs come in a variety of textures and piles. Chenille Rugs are low-pile, lightweight, and feature a smooth texture. These rugs work best in high-traffic areas and low-clearance doors, like in the kitchen and entryways. Plush Moroccan Rugs are higher-pile rugs that feature a furry and fuzzy texture and will look nice and feel comfortable in bedrooms and living rooms. For outdoor and transitional spaces, consider our flat-weave Outdoor Rug or Re-Jute Rug.

Rug Color: Because kitchen and hallway floors are prone to muddy feet, paw prints, messes, and spills, opt for runners in darker shades of black, grey, dark blue, or black and white. For smaller spaces, picking a runner rug in neutral tones that match or complement the color of your floor or wall will make the space look bigger and less cluttered.

Rug Style or Pattern: Aside from the color, the style or pattern of your short or long runner rug can either blend with or add contrast to your space. Start with the theme of your room, whether that’s bohemian, modern, traditional, or farmhouse, then look for a runner rug pattern that will complement your theme. For modern themes, go for a geometric or abstract pattern. For a farmhouse look, opt for a Persian rug with a slightly distressed area. For bohemian or eclectic, go for a pattern with intricate floral details.

Rug Safety: Because runners are usually placed in high-traffic areas, make sure your runner rug comes with a nonslip rug pad. All our runner rugs come with a Rug Pad that’s specifically designed to cling to the floor, keeping your runner rug securely in place.

Kitchen Runners

Kitchen runners look best in long, galley-style kitchens, as well as large kitchens with an island. If the galley is wide, position the runner rug along the sink side of the kitchen. If the space is narrow, position it in the center of the kitchen. If you have a kitchen island, position your kitchen runner rug on either or both sides of the island.

Hallway Runners

Hallway runners create a seamless, practical, and stylish transition in your hallways as you move from one room to another. For hallways, consider the size and shape of your space and choose a hallway rug that allows you to have at least 4 to 5 inches of visible flooring between the rug and the wall.

Entryway Runners

For large houses with a foyer or entryways with a French door, consider placing a short runner by the front door. Our Chenille runner rugs are low-pile and lightweight, which makes them perfect for under the door.

Washable Runner Rugs to the Rescue

Because entryway, hallway, and kitchen floors tend to get dirty very easily, make sure your runners are made of materials that are easy to clean. The good news? All our entryway, kitchen, and hallway runner rugs are stain-resistant, water-resistant, and machine-washable! No matter what color, pattern, or style you’re looking for, we’ve got the perfect runner rug for you!
